The personal blog, an ongoing diary or commentary by an individual, is the traditional, most common blog. Personal bloggers usually take pride in their
blog posts, even if their blog is never read by anyone but them. Blogs often become more than a way to just communicate; they become a way to reflect on life
or works of art. Blogging can have a sentimental quality. Few personal blogs rise to fame and the mainstream, but some personal blogs quickly garner an
extensive following. A type of personal blog is referred to as "microblogging," which is extremely detailed blogging as it seeks to capture a
moment in time. Sites, such as Twitter, allow bloggers to share thoughts
and feelings instantaneously with friends and family and is much faster than e-mailing or writing.
Micro-blogging is a form of blogging that allows members to send brief updates of what they are doing at any particular time. Messages can be submitted by a
variety of means, including text messaging, instant messaging, email, digital audio or the web.
The most notable service is Twitter, which was launched in July 2006 and won the Web Award in the blog category at the 2007 South by Southwest Conference in
Austin, Texas. The main competitors to Twitter have been Plurk and Jaiku.
Other leading social networking websites Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn, and Xing also have their own micro-blogging feature, better known as status updates.
Our Yuku Blog Ring uses twitter and with that one is allowed upto 140 characters which also includes any urls blogged with the text.
Not only can one manually tweet by using the web and text but by using a system such as Twitterfeed one can also have their blog or message board post
automatically submitted to Twitter including a linked url to the post.
